The health of the venture capital markets has been the focus of much conjecture in 2019. Despite the lackluster performance of certain high-profile IPO’s, the last year of the decade demonstrated a favorable trend. Indeed, commentators had speculated that interest in venture-backed, tech companies may have cooled because the growth in the number of investments has slowed. According to PitchBook and SharesPost data, notwithstanding, we are pleased to report that 2019 set a new record for overall dollars invested in the sector, suggesting that gloomy fundraising forecasts may have been exaggerated.
