Kin Insurance was founded in 2016 by Jason Heidkamp, Lucas Ward, Sean Harper, Sebastian Villarreal, and Stephen Wooten. In 2021 the company announced plans to go public via SPAC merger, though the company later cancelled the deal due to “current unfavorable market conditions.”

Kin is a direct-to-customer home insurance company that uses data to provide affordable coverage to homeowners in catastrophe-prone regions. The company has raised more than $390 million in venture capital funding from investors including Runway Growth Capital, Avenue Capital Group, Skyline Capital Management, Hudson Structured Capital Management, and Group1001.
